Writing this posthumously, since the announcement that Apple’s AirPower is officially dead, it really helps take this product up a notch. Not that Nomad needs any leg-up when it comes to the quality and pricing of their products, but now that there is no such thing as AirPower, Nomad is king – in my opinion – when it comes to wireless charging bases, which brings me to the review of this incredibly sweet piece of tech: The Nomad Base Station.
Presentation: The Nomad Base Station Hub is the epitome of convenience, and class. Not only can you charge four different devices at the same time, but it’s also made out of aircraft grade aluminum, and infused with fantastic leather that really makes it shine! It looks great, and even comes in the option to have a walnut base instead of the aluminum, which I think looks even better – especially in a professional setting. The Base Station has three individual Qi wireless charging coils under the leather surface, spaced out so that you can charge up to two devices at the same time, utilizing the 10w of current. On the back, there is an ambient light sensor, as well as (1) USB-C PD port capable of charging at 18W, and one USB-A port that charges at 7.5w.

Functionality: I’m a huge fan of the Base Station. It looks great, it frees me up from having to use a ton of wires for everything and it has a very minimal footprint on my nightstand. The wireless charging coils perform well and crank out a whopping 10w of power, which is more than enough to get your wireless charging capable devices up and running. In addition to that, the added charging support that the USB ports add on the back really seals the deal for me. I am able to utilize the USB-A port to plug in my Apple Watch charging cable, and the USB-C PD port is used for any other non-wireless charging devices that I have. Each night I put my iPhone XR and Samsung Galaxy S10+ on the wireless ports. Another thing I like to use the USB-C port for is when I want to use my phone while it’s recharging. Sometimes I need to use my phone while it’s charging, so the 18w of power gives me enough gas to keep my phone running, as well as charge it from the comfort of my own bed. Of course, there are other applications for this, but I’ll leave you to think of how it might apply in your own life. The bottom line is that it can charge up to for devices at once, and it does it with ease!
Ease of Use: The only real headache that I have had with the Charging Base is the wireless charging points. When I first took the Charging Base out of the box, I was super excited to use it and immediately place my phone down on the charging pad… and nothing. I even looked at the diagram on the inside of the box that shows where the charging coils are, and I still had trouble getting them to start working. Unfortunately, Qi wireless charging really requires the coils to be near-perfectly aligned for them to charge, and finding the sweet spot took a bit of practice. Once I figured out where I needed to place my devices for them to charge properly, the headache was quickly alleviated.
Mister World-Wide: Last but not least, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the charging adapter has three different connectors for world-wide applicability. It has the standard two-prong adapter for 110w current, as well as the European 220w standard, and even the three-prong adapter if that’s what you need. So, wherever you happen to be in this small world, you can use the included adapter to charge your tech without the need for a converter.
Conclusion: The Nomad Base Station is one fancy piece of charging technology, and it’s a perfect for your home or office needs. It’s versatile, stylish, and allows you to charge pretty much anything under the sun. I have been more than happy with mine, and I think it’s definitely worth the $99 investment to pick one up. Nomad makes fantastic products and the Base Station lives up to the quality and aesthetic standards that I have grown to appreciate.
